"Looking foolish does the spirit good. The need not to look foolish is one of youth's many burdens; as we get older we are exempted from more and more, and float upward in our heedlessness, singing Gratia Dei sum quod sum." (John Updike)

You would love the 1905 (I could hardly believe the date, myself!) French Dictionary I've purchased there as well as Casanova's Memoir's (1945), Vanity Fair (1958, and for the 17-year publishing difference, it has aged a lot less... or perhaps simply not as well-loved as the former book), and Oscar Wilde and the Yellow Nineties (1941).
I like the smell of old books almost as well the cracked spines of new books--sort of musty and fragile.
Oh, and you were beautifully modest last night on the television. I'd love to read some of this, ah-hem, portfolio I've heard so much about.
I admire you so.
